Why you should see this show…

Brent Kirby is one of the busiest performers in Cleveland whether he’s playing on his own or with different bands, he’s constantly performing at venues across town. Voted “Best Singer,” “Best Male Vocal,” and “Best Musician” by Cleveland Scene, it’s no secret that there’s something special about his act. It has everything; catchy hooks, incredible instrumentation, and lyrics with soul.

    Brent Kirby Bio
One of The Plain Dealer’s “25 Acts to Watch,” Brent Kirby is a night’s stroll with a rock n’ roll romantic. This does not mean Kirby’s merely a smitten troubadour, or a bard for the wayward but colorful life of musicians. Though his own songs bring up those immortal topics, Kirby’s romanticism is much bigger than that. His songs start with the introspective stir of strum and voice, but just like his performances, quickly move outward and embrace the listener. Kirby, who grew up in Wisconsin and has lived playing music in places as varied as Chicago, Nashville, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Cleveland, has acquired a keen narrator’s eye. Playing bars and clubs since his early teens, his lyrics dictate life in the moment, not as nightly grinds, but as places where dreams really come to life in gritty color.

Brent Kirby’s been called by many of his peers one of Cleveland’s hardest working musicians and his actions prove that. In 2013, Brent Kirby was voted “Best Singer” and also “Best Male Vocal” by the Cleveland Scene, and 2012, he was voted “Best Musician.” When he is not playing solo or with his band, called His Luck, he writes the tunes and fronts the Jack Fords (2007, 2009 Best Rock Band Cleveland Scene), leads the monthly revival of Gram Parsons with his band The New Soft Shoe, and plays drums for the talented Cleveland holiday band, the Ohio City Singers. His 10 x 3 Songwriter showcase weekly series at Brothers Lounge has created an encouraging, vibrant original music scene.

In addition to all of the awards garnered by all the other groups Kirby has been a part of, he has been individually nominated multiple times by the Free Times and Cleveland Scene for Best Male Singer/Songwriter and Best Male Vocalist. This has led to sharing the stage with Elizabeth Cook, Edwin McCain, Jorma Kakounen, Ellis Paul, Michael Stanley, Will Hoge, John Eddie, Band of Heathens, Southside Johnny, Bottlerockets, Augustana, Devon Allman, The Yayhoos, James Gang, Marah, The Trews, Dave Alvin, Paul Thorn, Elephant Revival, American Aquarium, Bobby Keys, Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys, among many others.

Fueled by an arsenal of songs in the spirit of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, to the more recent Ryan Adams, Ray Lamontagne, and Wilco, Kirby delivers a charismatic performance with a heartfelt sincerity that’s been honed by countless gigs and a sheer desire for perfection.

    ABOUT THIS LIVE BROADCAST SERIES

Continuing Cleveland’s rich tradition of rock n’ roll and radio, the Music Box Supper Club, in partnership with oWOW radio, are excited to introduce their new summer-long, Happy Hour Concerts every Wednesday starting on June 7. The concert series is designed to be reminiscent of the beloved Coffee Break Concerts of the old WMMS in its heyday. It will consist of up and coming artists — both national touring bands, and the best local bands — performing at the Music Box, and broadcast live by oWOW Radio. In keeping with the Coffee Break tradition, these Happy Hour concerts will feature the artists’ latest album release tracks and popular hits in an hour-long commercial free performance.
