Sing Me(rle) Back Home!

An anniversary celebration of the life and legacy of Merle Haggard

Why you should see this show

On April 6, 1937, one of America’s musical giants, the incomparable Merle Haggard, was born in Oildale, California. On April 6, 2016, 79 years later to the day, Merle passed from this earth following a lifelong bout of “Rambling Fever” leaving behind a rich musical legacy. This April 6, GRINGO STEW (Northeast Ohio’s foremost Americana/Roots Country/Tex-Mex band) will honor that legacy in a very special anniversary concert event at Cleveland’s premier live music showcase, The Music Box Supper Club. GRINGO STEW will pay tribute to the phenomenal Haggard songbook, performing many of his greatest and best-loved hits, followed by a full set of GRINGO STEW’s authentic, Texas-flavored originals and unique covers of songs from your favorite Americana/Roots Country artists. There will be special guests, Merle trivia, prizes, and more!

Gringo Stew Bio
GRINGO STEW serves up authentic American music, infused with southwestern spice. These six seasoned musicians individually honed their craft on the beer-soaked stages of honky-tonks and dance halls from Texas to Massachusetts, and in smoky bar rooms and concert clubs from Cleveland to Nashville. Whether performing their unique, or reverent, renditions of lesser-known works by great American masters, or their own lively and engaging originals, GRINGO STEW insists on one critical ingredient that sets them apart: authenticity; songs about real life and honest emotions.

A chunky, hearty rhythm supplied by bassist ͞”Johnny Mac” McElwain and drummer Tom Getz; a dollop of creamy fiddle from Jim Kelly; a dash of syrupy pedal steel by Dan ͞”Steely Dan” Morris; a hefty portion of Michael Rendon’s savory Texas vocals; topped off with the “5-alarm” smoking guitar of Frank Scialdone; and garnished with sweet harmonies: that’s the GRINGO STEW recipe!
