Gretchen Pleuss Album Release

Sweet Vocals & Poetic Local Folk

Daughter of the Broader Skies
Why you should see this show…

Produced by Jim Wirt, Daughter of the Broader Skies is the much anticipated full-length album from Ohio Native Gretchen Pleuss. The release show features opener Emily Keener and Gretchen’s all-star band. Midwest Action premiered Gretchen’s single “Everybody’s Pretty” in November of 2018. It garnered national praise and on overwhelmingly positive reviews.

“Her vocal delivery and skillful finger-picking call to mind the folk singers who graced the stage of the Gaslight Café during the ’60s Greenwich Village folk renaissance. Fans of Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, and other folk luminaries will appreciate Gretchen’s gorgeous arrangements and thought-provoking songwriting.” – Dan Jarvis, Midwest Action!

Gretchen Pleuss Bio
Gretchen Pleuss is an Ohio-bred singer-songwriter whose soft vocals and evocative songwriting ability have quickly positioned her as one of the finest emerging acts in her genre. Hailing from a lower middle-class upbringing, her pure and poetic lyrics resonate with listeners on deep, sometimes gut-wrenching levels.

To date, Gretchen has played at an array of venues throughout the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Peru, and Ecuador and opened for prominent acts such as Lisa Loeb, Loudon Wainwright III, Chely Wright, Damien Jurado, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), and Bill Payne (Little Feat, Doobie Brothers).

“As with some of her proudly stated musical heroes, which include Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and Ani Difranco, Pleuss keeps the music above the standard, three-chord, coffee-house troubadour sound weith some cool chord progressions (a la Mitchell) and grooves. Pleuss also trusts her lilting melodies enough to use her quiet, emotive alto to sell her lyrics.” -Malcolm X Abram, The Akron Beacon Journal

Emily Keener Bio
Cleveland based singer-songwriter Emily Keener is a craftswoman of emotion, and her take on alternative folk is somewhere between Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and Eliott Smith. Reflective and evocative, Emily’s music is a mirror and a magnifying glass, and she delivers her lyrics with a presence that resembles conversations in dimly lit living rooms.

Keener’s emergence into artistry was more of a fateful stumble, and the difference between each early release exhibits a quick wising-up: from the Folk/Americana EP East of the Sun (March 2015) to her latest full length, Breakfast, (November 2016) following a successful run on The Voice. Music Connection called Breakfast “warm, pleasant and smart,” deeming Keener “a born communicator.” In 2017, she received No Depression’s Singer-Songwriter Award.
